The magic of coconut oil
Thursday, April 23, 2015Hello darlings,
Since a lot of beauty gurus are talking about coconut oil and its magical effects I tried it out myself! I'm really critical about such products because my skin is very difficult since forever. As a teenager I've had my fair share of blemishes that eventually ended up in a really harsh case of acne. I went to so many dermatologists and doctors, tried the usual stuff like clearacil and eventually only dr. Witmers products seemed to calm down my skin a bit. After high school my skin cleared up a lot. From having acne all over the place (even front and back) it went down to only a few outbreaks every now and then. My skin is really dry as well and that didn't seem to help since I needed to hydrate my dry skin yet had to find a solution to stop breaking out (because of the oils in most products for dry skin).
Now that I'm 24 I have a few blemishes every now and then so I'm not complaining. Now to the coconut oil part!
I bought this can about 2 weeks ago and started with using it as a make up remover. I now swear by this! It's much more fun to remove my make up because of the mini massage you give yourself but also because it feels so nice on my skin. Some days when my face feels extra dry I apply a bit more for the night. I don't even use a day cream anymore because my skin feels so hydrated after a nights rest with it. It sinks so well into the skin, really like a dream!
I was afraid to get breakouts from it, a minority does have this problem, but for once I didn't! Yay for me. Now almost two weeks later I feel like my skin is so much more hydrated, I haven't used any day or nightcream anymore nor any make up removers at all. The redness in my skin has reduced a lot (I swear my face always looked so damn red!) and a barely have any blemishes! And the ones I had got smaller or went away overnight (depending on the size ofc). So here's how it works;
It is a thick consistency, but once you rub it into your skin or hands it melts to an oil. I rub it into my skin, take it of with a tissue and leave it that way unless I feel that my skin is extremely dry that day. You don't need a lot (see picture).
It's also great for cooking, as a hair mask, hand creme etc. I bought mine at a local store where they sell diet products and one can of 500ml costs me €6.50. Knowing you only need a pea size you'll be set for ages!
#nomakeup!
