Hello darlings,
last week I went shopping with a friend of mine and I noticed these cute jeans in the window by Bershka. They were ripped so I totally fell in love with them. I wasn't planning to spend any money but a girl can at least try them on right? Now I've noticed the last time I went into Bershka their sizing is really petite. So instead of only taking a 36 (UK 8) I also took a 38 (UK 10) with me just in case.
My friend was waiting outside of my changing room when I peaked through the curtain with kind of a sad face. The 36 did fit around my legs really well yet I couldn't get it up over my thighs. When I tried the 38 I felt terrible as well. I could close it but it left me with some love handles because it was that tight.
I tried another pair and the same thing happened. I felt somewhat discouraged because, I'm only 1m63 and around 50kg. So I'm not a curvy girl at all trying to fit in a 'regular' size. Now because Bershka is a daughter company of Zara I need to clear this up, Zara sizes are not the same deal. I fit in a 38 perfectly and even a 36 sometimes, really depending on the fit of the jeans itself.
On Saturday I went shopping with my mother, sister and niece who's 16 years old. She's a size smaller then I am. She also tried on a pair of jeans in Bershka. The girl couldn't fit in a small as well. I let her try on a medium and it fit a lot better. Yet here was the leg problem again, it got really loose around her legs while it fit around her thighs (I have to say there wasn't any space left to breathe properly but she squeezed in them).
Bershka sizes only go up to a 42 (UK 14). Which really is a 38-40 in normal measurements if you think about it. And when you think about it it's really discouraging for girls in their teens. I felt quite bad about it myself and I'm 24, imagine being a healthy 15 year old girl and you have to wear a 42 while you're really only a 36-38. Imagine all the girls who do need a 40-42 and would have to wear 46+. That's not healthy at all for those girls, thinking they are too 'fat' to wear fashionable clothes.
It all depends on the store itself, I know. In Pimkie I'm a 34, Zara 36-38. I don't mind as long as the jeans fit me. But having to go even 2 more sizes up when that's not even necessarily is ridiculous.
Have you ever been in this kind of situation before? How did it make you feel and what did you do about it? Let me know, I'd love to hear your opinions!
